Upgraded Wii using wifi connection to FON. Now supports USB keyboards. Have to check if I can get Opera using "points".

I've been converting my "star points" to "Wii points" but it's
terribly frustrating. The shop runs out of points regularly and I'm
limited to 100 per day. Their captcha is buggy and the difference
between 0 and O is minimal too. I'm surprised at Nintendo for
making it this unpleasant.
Does your FON router have USB support as well? I've seen one in
Dublin and thought it would be possible to trigger a USB device
connected to the router over IP. Interesting use cases there.
@joej - Yeah, Captcha gets
it wrong a lot and that 0/O thing has caught me already. Linked
Club Nintendo to Wii but not able to convert stars to points
yet.
@topgold - Several USB
ports. They seem to be rolling out support for them incrementally.
So far they support USB keyboard. Will be shocked if thumbdrives
not next since SD is all they support at the minute (not even
same-sized MMC).
Doh, you said FON, not Wii. FON has power, antenna and one
network port. That's all and I don't expect they'll add any more
for cost reasons. Last year they started shipping a 2 port one
which makes total sense so you only need one router in total (along
with DSL box)
Oh dear god, I just got into the points/stars shop - The 100 a
day limit means it's going to take me 5 days to convert all the
stars to points. What sort of cretin came up with this system and
why?
Every game by Nintendo comes with a Club Nintendo insert. Sign
up and register each game and you get "stars".
You then connect tothe internet on your Wii and go to "Shopping
Channel". They ask you if you want to link to a Club Nintendo
account. Once you do, you can then convert all the "stars" over to
Shopping Channel "Points" which you redeem to download classic N64,
NES or GameCube games to play on Wii.
Not exactly slick!
If you haven't connected to internet already, the first thing is
does is a Wii upgrade.
It's connected to the internet alright (saw your review of
weather channel and gotta agree - I love the way you can spin the
globe with the wii remote). I just couldn't figure out the club
nintendo thing - where do I signup for that ?
That's what is so non-slick about it. You sign up to Club
Nintendo on your PC at www.clubnintendo.eu and register
your games there and get the stars there.
Then you link that account to your Wii, on your Wii.
Then you go back to your PC (after waiting a while) and go to
https://wiipointscard.nintendo-europe.co...
and login there with your Club Nintendo login. There you can
convert your stars to points and buy more points.
Not sure about next step as I haven't done it yet. Either those
points then appear on Wii Shopping Channel or the PointsCard site
gives you voucher codes that you type in on the Wii.
I've registered products (have 2750 star points), linked wii
shop channel to club nintendo a/c but now when I try to convert
star points to wii points I get an ERR 0300 - it says my wii shop
channel might not be linked to club nintendo. Anyone have any idea
how long you have to wait for nintendos websites to get their shit
together?
I did all the initial steps last night but the linking wouldn't
work until this morning. Then you'll discover that 400 stars = 100
points and you can only covert 400 stars a day!
I can't even do that. I can login now but even though the
wiipointsshop tells me I have 2750 star points none of the wii
point cards are clickable/purchasable.
I bought some Wii points with the credit card. The transaction
was surprisingly easy, but UI and navigation on the Wii store was
bad. Took ages to buy a few old NES games for the virtual
console.

Apart from the stars/points conversions, you can just buy points with your credit card and them redeem them for the same games etc.
I want to try and get Opera on the Wii. Just cos.

Terrible software. Looks like they had the stars thing for a while and then tried to showhorn in the points system on top of it. Badly.

Today is the first day that I've seen the "Wii Points Card 300" on sale using that site and believe it or not, it worked :)
