Weight is all relative. If you want to feel better, they are lots of TV shows on showing people who are super morbidly obese, those shows always cheer me up!

In my case it's relative to being 4 stone lighter when I got married!

All biccies and sweets gone from house. Treadmill for rainy days and bike for dryish ones. Wii Tennis for variety :-)

More focused on health than weight but they'll probably go hand in hand.

I brought back the Mario Olympics game, but it is a good one for sapping energy. Maybe that's why I really brought it back! The fat cells told my brain to stop playing it!

I used to be 15 stone for a number of years about the time I was in college. The turning point came when my sister made a home video, with the first camcorder that came into our house, and I saw myself from a third person perspective. Never realized how fat I'd become until that point. That was it,... I just decided to eat less and got down to my current 11.5 stone within a few months. I found out a few years later that several people wondered if I had a terminal illness at the time, due to the speed with which the weight fell of.

Funny thing is I was actually very fit at 15 stone and had no problem lasting a full soccer match playing at midfield. So it wasn't that I needed more exercise or to eat less rubbish (I had a good diet too), it was simply that I needed to eat less.... a lot less. And that's what I did.

Weight falls off me when I put my mind to it. Problem is that I haven't done so since 2002.

@EirePreneur: Can't imagine you at fifteen stone!! You're spot on about weight loss though. It's usually a straight calorie equation no matter what your diet. I had to adjust considerably when I stopped playing fulltime. Let's just say I didn't do it very well for a while. A lot of players gain weight when they stop. Surprises people but makes sense when you think about it. :)

@IrishAntion ya, a number of friends have been just waiting for me to pile back on the weight ever since I stopped playing football but thankfully it hasn't happened yet. However I did start putting on a few pounds for the first time in years in the lead up to Christmas so I've started using my brother's new treadmill. I'm only able to run about 2k at the moment but have promised my sisters that I'll be joining them on the Cheshire home charity walk this time next year, except I'll be running it. That's about 15k. I have to set targets like that for myself or I don't make progress. I'm very sure I'll stick to it too.

@conoro ya, it really is just about putting your mind to it. I don't mean to sound condescending towards serial dieters but there's no substitute for simple determination and self-control.

Good for you! Just running wouldn't be for me. When I chuck in football I'll do some other sport for staying in shape I reckon. Tennis maybe?? :)

Agreed about dieters. Biggest problem with most diets is too much too quickly and expecting immediate results. Can cause starvation response in the body which not only stops them losing the fat they want, it also causes the body to gain weight back more quickly when they give up on it. The way you did it is way better. Starving yourself isn't fun or practical.

I discovered I lost a lot of weight when I used a Photoshop effect on my avatar.

Running is all relative to the run you take... I can beat any of you for scenery on this 8.5km route: http://www.flickr.com/photos/r1g2b3/150457626/

Used to run that x4 a week before moving to London and concrete streets & traffic lights just don't do it for me.

@rgb I'll have to disagree with you about that! I'm from the west end of the Bluestacks in Donegal. I used to run a 7/8k route over the mountains as a "pre" pre-season. Granted that was 10 years ago... Don't have any pics to put up though so you win for now. :) Agree about concrete and lamposts not being very inspiring though. It's not the same if you have to drive somewhere to go for a run.

With the likes of Jaiku we can all just let ourselves go completely, we'll always have company even if they need a crane to get us out of the house!

@johnm Haha! I like the way you're advocating the sedentary lifestyle! If only the world made judgements about us based solely on our minds and social interactions. Unfortunately despite our alledgedly advancing society physical appearance is getting more important not less.
