Odd little Thursday afternoon thought; I really do enjoy living in Cork. Now back to work.

Any particular reason, or just a random thought?

Just struck me as I was driving along the river into Cork. Probably an after-shock from the incredible scenery of Adrigole.

I grew up in Dublin but would never dream of living there now. I love Cork too - but ssshhh keep it under your hat - these corkonians are already full of themselves.

Gotta agree with you. On both parts ;-)

I lived in Cork for 3 years in the 90s and was thinking at one stage about buying a house and 'settling down' until life took me on an unexpected detour. What's really great about the city is how close it is to beautiful beaches, harbour towns, golf courses and fabulous wild scenery. Not that the city ain't a cool spot too. My bi-monthly trip to Carrigaline usually gets me all nostalgic, like.

Good stuff Conor. I was actually born out that direction myself, down the very end of the Beara peninsula, it is a really nice place but it was a long haul in the 80s in a banger of a Cortina that liked to break down on top of the Healy Pass :)

p.s., We heard that Walter. Cork people have superb hearing.

How did the Beara peninsula get such a great road to Castletownbere whilst the road to Mizen is the same nightmare it was when I was a kid on holidays in Barley Cove in the 70's?

Don't know but if you go down to the end of Beara peninsula e.g., Ardgroom, Eyeries, Allihies the road is as bad as Goleen to Crookhaven. Driving to Castletownbere on the Beara pensinsula is the equivalent of driving to Schull on the Mizen - the road is fine up to that point because beyond it there are only small villages. I lived in Schull as a teenager too, and we never had any trouble on the roads, but in Ardgroom we'd often have to beep the horn when going around a corner because there were so many blind spots.

Gotta be one of my favourite areas of the planet tho. Barren beauty.

Agree with all, the only disadvantage I find with living in Cork is its distance from the majority of our extended family and some of our good friends... now if we could only get them all to move here, twould be perfect......
